Our Mission Statement

The mission of the Harris County Hospital District Foundation is to support the Harris Health System in the delivery of high-quality healthcare to Harris County residents.

About Us

The Harris County Hospital District Foundation is a nonprofit corporation that raises funds and public support for Harris Health System programs and services that go beyond the narrow scope of tax-assisted care for the uninsured and the underinsured. Through public-private partnerships, the HCHD Foundation leverages public funding for the Harris Health System, which is the community-owned healthcare system for Harris County.

Dr. Kenneth L. Mattox, is one of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees.  During the summer the Foundation had two interns for a short while. They interviewed key individuals in departments within Harris Health System where the Foundation awarded funds.  Dr. Mattox, chief of staff at Ben Taub Hospital and professor of surgery with Baylor College of Medicine, was recently elected second vice president-elect by the American College of Surgeons at this year’s Clinical Congress in Washington, D.C. Dr. Mattox also was honored with the 2013 Benjamin Rush Award for Citizenship and Community Service by the American Medical Association. The award is given to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the community above and beyond the call of duty as a practicing physician. Dr. Mattox will be presented with this honor at the interim meeting of the AMA later this month.

We hope you enjoy this interview regarding the importance of the Harris County Hospital District Foundation.
